Hilo, the nearest "big" town, is about 45 minutes to the north. Peaceful and free from tourism, it offers
a 1930's art deco theater, quaint architecture, fine restaurants and a twice-weekly farmers' street market filled
with exotic native flowers and fruits unlike anywhere else in the world.
Hilo also provides medical services, a hospital, a mall - including Borders, Walmart, etc., and two excellent health food
stores.
