Constructed eight years ago of natural wood, it is airy and spacious despite being less than 1000 square
feet. A double foam futon sleeps two upstairs in a loft, and the living room cotton futon couch folds out to sleep
two more. A solar-powered 12 volt electric system, propane stove and refrigerator, plus rain-catchment water and
demand hot water, supply the dwelling. Bottled drinking water is available nearby. TAP WATER IS NOT DRINKABLE.
There are no modern features such as television, electric hairdryers, etc. since Orchid House is a retreat and
a home base for outdoor adventuring. The house front and back doors are made of screen, as are many
of the walls, so the house is essentialy "unlockable.". The house managers live nearby and will introduce
you to the house and area, give you clean bed and bath linens, etc. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking.
Orchid House is SMOKE-FREE and without scents from perfumes, solvents, cleaning supplies, etc.
